Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
