Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot except for him with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
