England to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will commence their Euro 2028 journey at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the expected passage for a championship staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The team are planned to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would be held at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Opening and Rally
The event was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they approached the venue by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were held up with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Timeline
The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve Wales if they make it.
Wembley will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.
It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will attract households and help connect with a more diverse set of viewers.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.
Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through that route.
Venues and Playoffs
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals played at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
