Ariana Grande visited Singapore for the Asia-Pacific debut of Wicked: For Good

Passionate supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barrier and touched the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.

A circulating video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.

Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by event staff.

Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.

Pattern of Event Invasions

This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.

"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.

"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.

Fans Voice Worry Over the Star's Well-being

Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.

"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more response on Instagram.

Several supporters also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.

Aftermath and Premiere Information

In clips shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.

Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.

Hundreds of Singapore supporters had waited to see the performers of Wicked

Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it began.

The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-part version of the popular Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two contrasting sorceresses.

The production itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.

They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.

The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
