Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
