Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels suitable to voice opinions against the Trump government, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions across the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

In a recent interview, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence at all on electoral choices.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

The actress has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal candidates in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.

Earlier Remarks

Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “since I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will make every effort to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was highlighted by his election win.

“This upcoming term feels different,” noted the actress of Trump’s presidency. “Because he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

New Release

Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the film in Venice, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is no less than a genocide and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

The actor sought to redirect outrage about the issue to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. Although Ramsay has disputed the narrative being seen as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, the actress shared that she identified with aspects of her film narrative after the delivery of her second son, shortly after shooting ended.

“There was concern about my child,” she said, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I continued it for 14 days and it really helped.”

Career Moments

Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
