The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
