The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
