Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Soldiers to the White House
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the press. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she also intended to speak to the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
